Education Week

May 2023

Across the State one of the most important part of the school calendar is Education Week. It gives the opportunity to make the partnership connection between School / Student / Family accessible with minimum disruption to learning. Each year the Department arrives at a theme for the week and the hope is that schools organise some activities that 1/ students will enjoy and 2/ that families will come and join in.

At Northern Bay College each Campus set plans for the week across the range of topics and when families arrived there was great pride on students faces to see that the 'folks' wanted to see them at work. The college is very aware that not all adults are able to come at any given time of the week and the older a student gets the less encouraging they become of mum and dad coming to school, but we do encourage you to take advantage of any invitation to visit classes because it means a lot to the students.

This year we had mums, dads, siblings grand parents and family friends and that was terrific to see them.

For more photos on most of the events check out our Facebook Page

The Tallis Campus Teddy Bears picnic was a big success with lots of families coming to see the Year 5 students read to their Prep buddies. Despite the weather it was a lovely group activity.

One of the many activities at Hendy Campus was an invitation to families to spend time finding out more about excursions and activities that the students have undertaken.

There were events on most days at Peacock Campus over the week and at all the stages of schooling. One of the most popular was the Students v Staff Basketball match.

Open Days

At Wexford Campus  the week ended with a number of activities which included Maths games in the classroom.  In addition, all P-8 campuses hosted an annual event that is especially planned for Education Week.

Schools across the state and Northern Bay College in particular extend a special invitation from Prep students to the families from local Kindergartens who will hopefully choose Northern Bay for their school of choice in 2024. This special hour focusses on a normal morning with our Preps sharing what they do in class.

Maths Games

Mario Car Challenge

At Goldsworthy, celebrations focussed on a number of challenges  Staff v Students at a number of sports. One other challenge snuck in with Mr Alldis representing staff and 3 lucky student representative. The Mario game only has 4 screens at one time and therefore 4 players can access. We can assure you the driving skills displayed in the video are not the NBC Driving lessons program! :-)

Some Feedback from Wexford Year 5 and 6

Today we had an Open Day at Wexford for Education Week. Our parents and carers were invited to come up to visit our classrooms between 9 and 10 am. We decided to show our families some of the Maths games we have been learning over the past couple of weeks. In year 5/6 we played Maths games like Net Zero and Poison Numbers and we all had lots of fun!!     By Callum and Ellanore
