Tell us a little about yourself
My full name is Vivian Phantharangsi however, I go by Ms Phan for ease, and I have been here at Cecil Hills High School for 7 fast years now!
How long have you been teaching and what do you teach?
I have been teaching for about 8 years now and I am a Visual Arts & Photography teacher.
Other roles at school
Besides the usual teaching, I am a Year 10 Year Adviser and a part of a team that takes care of our social media presence. It keeps me busy as I run around with my Year Advising partner (Mr Faga) to ensure the wellbeing of our cohort is going well. I also work with Mrs Camilleri and Mr Floresca to celebrate and capture the amazing things we do at school!
Previous schools you worked at?
Cecil Hills High School was the first school that gave me a year teaching block and haven't left since! Prior to that, I was a casual teacher at both Patrician Brothers at Fairfield and also at Ashcroft High School.
Where did you attend high school?
Good Samaritan Catholic College.
What do you like to do when you aren't working?
I spend some time with my family. I also enjoy going out with my friends and husband. With Covid restrictions easing, it has given us the freedom to take advantage of being outside - something I definitely took for granted before Covid!
What's a fun fact about you many people may not know?
Mr Faga and I have a lot of similar coincidences - one of which is, we are only one day apart with our birthdays!
Your favourite movie?
I love anything animation, especially anything from Studio Ghibli such as Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro. I even went to the museum in Japan, and it was incredible!
How do you define success?
Success is a mindset and an action, instead of just an 'outcome'.
It is the ability to persevere through times of hardship with dedication, positivity and with a growth mindset.
What advice can you give students?
School is not just about academic achievement; it is about learning and growing into your young adult self.
It is about understanding what kind of friend, sister/brother, daughter/son you want to be.
So be kind to others and yourself, especially when you make mistakes. It is all a part of the journey!
Ms V Phan
