Year 1/2 News

Reading

The Year 1/2 classes have been focusing on making text-to-text connections in reading. We have been reading 2 books written by Bob Graham; The Red Woollen Blanket and Ellie's Dragon, and making connections between the physical and social developmental stages we all experience as we grow up. The students have also been making connections to other text types like Toy Story 2, as well as reflecting on some other books that they have read before.

Students have displayed a settled approach when engaging in Guided Reading sessions. They have explored a range of texts and completed activities based on the weekly learning intentions, such as using verbs and nouns in sentences.

Writing

During Writing sessions, Year 1/2 students have engaged in using Writer's Notebook and unpacking a variety of 'seeds'. We begin each lesson with an oral language experience in which students pull apart a 'seed'. Thinking prompts such as 'I think', 'I see' and 'I wonder' are shared and discussed. Students are then given the opportunity to provide ideas of what they can use for their writing e.g. if using a shell as a 'seed' they might like to write about a time they visited the beach. Below are some photos of our class Writer's Notebook.

Parent Helpers in the Classroom

We are pleased to be able to welcome Parent Helpers back into our classrooms. This is an exciting opportunity for parents to be able to come into the learning space, lend a helping hand & watch the students learn and grow.

Parents who have completed the Parent Helper Workshop last year will be able to sign up to assist immediately. A note will be sent out via Skoolbag in the coming days as well as a hard copy that will be given to your child. Please be aware that vaccination status will need to be shown upon entry into the school.

Parents who have not yet completed the 'Parent Helper' Induction workshop will need to do so prior to helping in our learning space. Parent Helper Induction sessions will take place over the next few weeks. Please refer to the 'principals' page of the newsletter for the days and times that the induction will be conducted.
