Foundation

I was excited to welcome Foundation students to science in week 5. Students did a great job at exploring the question: What is science? We brainstormed our ideas, read a lovely story called 'What is science' and students then created a drawing of some science they love. These will be displayed in the science room.

Year 1/2

Students  are learning that living things grow, change and have offspring similar to themselves. Over the last two weeks students

  • predicted how living things (mealworms) will grow and change and created drawings of living things when they were younger or older.
  • observed and created a line drawing of their mealworm; and set up their investigation into the affect of temperature on the growth of mealworms.

Year 3/4

In the Package it Better unit, students are learning that natural and processed materials have a range of physical properties which can influence their use.

Students explored the characteristics of a range of packages. Students also closely examined the properties of different materials used in packaging.

Year 5/6

Through the Marvellous micro-organisms unit, students are learning that the growth and survival of living things are affected by the physical conditions of their environment. Students used their senses to make observations about different breads.  Students also investigated what happens when yeast is combined with water and sugar. This was a highly successful and engaging investigation.

Science at home

  • Get involved in Clean Up Australia Day. There are lots of ways and opportunities to get involved beyond participating in clean up events on March 6.
  • Learn about what you can see in the sky this month, including the moon phases and the Autumn Equinox, at Skynotes.
