Prep
The preps are growing familiar with the music room and all its joys. During Term 3 they will be singing songs and learning to hold and play a variety of instruments including tuned and untuned percussion and ukuleles. We will move our bodies and use body percussion to keep the beat and make rhythms.
Year 2
The year 2s have started Term 3 by exploring pitch, singing some new songs and developing drum skills. They are working on rhythms that use bass (kick drum), middle (snare) and high (hi hats).
They will also be learning to play B, A and G on recorder and some songs that use those notes, simultaneously revising their keyboard knowledge to be able to play the same songs on keyboard. By the end of the term we hope to have some songs down, playing on all 3 instruments simultaneously!
Year 3
In music this term, the year 3s have started by making music using an everyday object (a plastic cup). They have learned a pattern that fits over a 4 beat time signature, and are now creating their own unique pattern, using the cup in different ways to make different sounds. From there we will be experimenting with fitting the patterns over different songs, choosing a song and learning to play it on our fantastic range of classroom instruments. Our overall aim is to create a musical performance which incorporates the cup pattern, singing and a range of musical instruments.
Year 4
The year 4s are building on their work in Term 2 to learn the E minor pentatonic scale (E, G, A, B, D) to learn 2 songs per class that feature that run of notes. They have voted on their most preferred songs and selected instruments based on current skills, with an aim of further developing their musical knowledge and skill on the chosen instrument. Together the classes are working on developing musical performances which incorporate singing, drums, percussion, keyboards, guitars, bass guitars and ukuleles.
Year 5 & 6
During Term 3 the year 5s and 6s will explore songs and prepare one for performance at the end of the year. They will examine scales such as the pentatonic scale and how this can be utilised in improvising and in creating riffs. They will also work on more complex rhythms to work into percussion and drums.
