Principal's Report

Dear parents, carers and kin,

Parent Survey

Next week, all families will receive a message about our annual Parent Survey.  This survey gives all of our families the opportunity to provide feedback about the school and help shape the school's future.  The survey doesn't take long to complete.  Please take a few minutes next week to log in and have a voice.  I really do value your participation in the survey.

Common Professional Practice Day and Curriculum Day this term

We have two student free days in term 3 this year.  The Curriculum Day scheduled for August 30th has been in the calendar all year.  Due to staffing shortages we have also had to make the decision to hold a common Professional Practice Day on September 7th which will also be a student-free day.  This day will be used for assessment, reporting and Student Support Group meetings.  As a parent of three children myself, I understand the difficulties that student-free days can impose on the lives of families.  I appreciate the whole school community's support and flexibility in this matter.

Student Representative Council

We have an outstanding group of young people in our SRC group again this year.  They have been working on a couple of special events this term.  Footy Colours Day on 24th August and a sausage sizzle for RUOK? Day on 31st August.  The students have been working together to prepare for both of these events at our Wednesday lunchtime meetings.

Other important messages you may have missed...

School uniforms

With the colder weather lately, I've noticed many students in different types of jumpers and jackets which are not school uniform.  Our current approved uniform has two jackets listed.  A fleece bomber jacket and the warm, waterproof spray jacket.  Both are great options for the cooler months.  I have the spray jacket myself and I wear it nearly every day.  You can contact Beleza Uniforms in Frankston for more information or to place an order.

Changes to transport

We sometimes have changes made to transport arrangements for students.  This can result in some last minute changes so that students access the correct bus, or are at the back gate for parent pick up.  The office staff does a great job of managing student transport.  Please help us keep transport operations running smoothly by contacting the main office by 2:45pm each day if there are any changes to how your  son or daughter is getting home from school.

Teacher communication

Communication channels between home and school became much more open and regular over the past two years.  This is a direct result of the pandemic and the periods of remote learning that required close contact between teachers and parents.  Good communication between home and school and strong relationships between parents and teachers is key to positive student outcomes.  Current email and other electronic communication can blur the lines between our working lives and home lives.  As a staff, we've discussed having boundaries and limiting parent communication after hours unless it is an emergency or a critical matter.  Please support us by communicating with teachers between 8:00am and 5:30pm.  Or if you are emailing outside of those hours, please accept that you may not get a reply until the next day.
