City LLEN News

St. Joseph’s Flexible Learning Centre

The City LLEN has facilitated a number of activities for students from St. Joseph’s Flexible Learning Centre. In partnership with the RMIT Skills & Job Centre a workshop on resume writing skills was conducted for students, followed by a second workshop on job interview skills. This included providing students with one on one interview practice with staff from RMIT and the LLEN. The LLEN also facilitated mock job interviews by phone for students interested in further improving their skills. Future activities planned by the LLEN to supports St. Joseph’s pathways program include industry visits and further training opportunities.

University High School

The City LLEN partnered with Drummond Street Youth Services and University High School to conduct a parent evening for parents residing in public housing in Carlton. The night was an opportunity for parents to get to know the school better and improve channels of communication. Further activities will be planned in the near future. The LLEN is also working with the Careers Coordinator and senior leadership to plan a progression program for students involving information on alternative pathways, including visits to alternative education providers and TAFE.

Flexi Schools Network

The City LLEN continues to support the flexible learning providers in the City of Melbourne to meet regularly and share their expertise. At the August meeting held at the Foundation for Young Australians staff learnt about FYA’s $20 Boss program and the range of other services and research available. Planning continued for the Flexi School’s sports day “School Slam” and a TAFE Taster day at William Angliss Institute. The next meeting of the group has been turned over to professional development to allow staff to learn more about the Guiding Circles approach to career development.
