Principal's Report
Dear families and friends of MPW,
Dear families and friends of MPW,
I hope you had an enjoyable Queen’s Birthday long weekend. We will have our final assembly for Term 2 on Friday 24th June at 9:05am in the gym, this is the last day of term. We are hoping to have some musical performances. A reminder school finishesat 2.30pm on the last day of term.
I am pleased to inform the community that I will continue in the Acting Principal role for Term 3. It has been a great term, where we have been fortunate enough to move back to some normal processes, such as opening the gates to all parents, allowing entry or dismissal from any gate and assembly back in the gym. I was also pleased to be able to announce the Capital Works funding, we are still expecting the Minister for Education and Local Member of Essendon to formally announce the funding in the first week of Term 3.
I look forward to more positive announcements and activities to celebrate learning throughout Term 3, such as celebrating 100 days of school for our F/1 students.
Reports and Three-Way Conferences
On Friday 17th, we will be publishing our Semester One Reports onto Compass. The Semester Reports provide information about your child’s achievement against the Victorian Curriculum and some statements about your child’s learning and behaviours at school.
The Semester Reports should be considered alongside the Ongoing Reporting tasks published each term for Reading, Writing, Maths and Specialists, and the Progress Report which gives an update on your child’s behaviour and effort in class. The Behaviour and Effort Scale and Rubrics in Ongoing Learning Task should provide you with timely feedback as to how your child is progressing and also their next steps in that particular area. The Semester Report is a summary overall of how your child is progressing, using the ongoing evidence and assessments completed through terms 1 and 2 for teachers to make a balanced judgement against the curriculum.
The Ongoing Reporting can be found in the ‘Learning Task’ tab and the Semester Reports and Progress Reports can be found in the ‘Reports’ tab.
Again, Semester Reports will be published on Friday 17th and we will be holding Three-Way Conferences early in Term 3. You will be able to book for your child’s conference through Compass in the first weeks of the new term.
Pyjama Day Monday 20th June
Tuesday 21st June is Winter Solstice, which is where the sun travels the shortest path through the sky resulting in the day of the year with the least sunlight and therefore the longest night. To acknowledge the Winter Solstice, we will be having a pyjama day on Monday 20th June leading into the solstice. Teachers and students are encouraged to wear their warm PJ’s on Monday 20th June. JSC will be promoting Pyjama Day this week.
Emergency Drills
As part of our OHS requirements we will be conducting our Emergency Management Drills practise, one this week and some next term. These drills include: a lockdown drill, evacuation drills and shelter in place. We will send information on the days these are held to families indicating which drill has occurred.
5/6 Camp
We have been fortunate to reschedule one of our 5/6 camp dates, where there was a clash with the MVIMP camp. The camps will now fall on: 16th -19th August and 23rd – 26th August.
There is a Camp Information Evening on WebEx this Thursday at 7pm with details about the upcoming camps.
Kind regards,
Jarrod Sutton
Acting Principal
