Assembly

Last Monday we presented at Assembly, and we did an amazing job! We presented our knowledge of the days of the week, months of the year and our tens friends!!! We also shared the retelling of the wonderful Indigenous story Miimi Marraal, Mother Earth! It was so wonderful to see so many people there to celebrate our amazing work so thank you to those who came along! We are looking forward to the next time we present!

Writing

The past two weeks in Foundation have been spent doing lots of writing, and wow, we have been doing a fantastic job! We have been using our 'Phonics Fist' to count the sounds we hear in words and  'Stretchy Snake' to stretch out the words to hear all the sounds! We have become super spellers!!!!!! Take a look at some of our amazing writing!

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday, 23rd May, it was National Simultaneous Storytime, where everyone in Australia read and listened to the same story simultaneously! This year we listened to Speedy Sloth, and we loved it!! We made some of our own sloths and had our own race!! It had to be in slow motion, of course!!!!

Inquiry

In Inquiry last week, we learnt about fruit and vegetables! We learnt how we know something is a fruit and vegetable and what months and seasons are suitable for growing different things. Learning and tasting many new fruits and vegetables that we hadn't heard of or seen before was interesting! Many of the F/1/2s tried lemon and didn't quite like what they tasted!!!! We loved seeing the kids give things a go and they absolutely loved tasting them all!!

Speaking of Inquiry, we will be starting to plant our veggies in the veggie garden soon! We will also start up our worm farms again!! If you have any newspapers you're not using if you could please drop them off at the office that would be amazing!!

Upcoming Excursion

Shortly you will receive an email regarding our special ECCOS excursion. The F/1/2 children will attend an ECCOS educational program to enhance our learning of sustainability. Keep an eye out on Operoo for this event. Here is a sneak peek of our excursion destination http://ecoss.org.au/

Keep up all the great work at home with homework!! Reading and tricky word practice at home really helps consolidate the knowledge we are learning at school!

If there are any questions or queries, let me know!!!

Please note I finally got around to getting my email changed to rbeveridge@sjyarrajunction.catholic.edu.au (If you use my old email, it will automatically send to my new email as they are linked)
