Music 'Try it out Night'

Beginner Band has begun!

Thank you to the wonderful students that have made the first couple of rehearsals a really exciting time! I'm looking forward to a great concert in term 3 where parents and friends can come along and see our progress. More details to come.

Music Try It Out Night

This year we had our first on campus Music Try it out Night! It was a great success with over 100 primary school students and their parents coming to test out a bunch of woodwind and brass instruments. Our wonderful Jazz Band and VCE groups performed and wow-ed the crowd with some great performances. Thanks to all that attended and if you want to know how you can get involved and help with an event like this, please give me an email. luke.devenish@education.vic.gov.au

The 39 Steps

The VCE Theatre students presented their Unit 3 Production of Patrick Barlow's The 39 Steps on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th May to enthusiastic audiences. The farcical mystery spoof script was bought to life through acting, direction and design and was the culmination of a term and a half of work. Students learnt to plan, research, annotate, collaborate, design, make, source, rehearse, refine and reflect upon their work. This was the students first performance to an audience in over 18months and it was a pleasure to welcome an audience back to Holloway Theatre again.

Congratulations to the cast on such a great achievement.

Tap Club

Tap club is running this term and we are loving it. The tappers have been meeting every Wednesday during lunch at the junior dance studio to rehearse an 80s piece for showcase. We have been lucky enough to have 2019 alumni and seasoned Sandringham College performer, Tam Davies come back to run the club along with year 11 dance student Flynn Dakis. This dynamic choreographic duo is creating a fun and exciting Tap dance routine, trust us when we say you are going to love it.

We are thoroughly looking forward to seeing this routine at showcase, keep up the awesome work Tap Club. If you are a student who is interested in Tap, please get in contact with Miss Slingsby to find out how you can get involved with this club.

Year 11 Theatre Unit 1 Showcase

Congratulations to the Year 11 Theatre Studies cohort on a fantastic evening of entertainment presented on Monday 20th May in the Holloway Theatre. Students were able to demonstrate their learning of a range of Pre-Modern styles, including Ancient Greek, Commedia Dell 'Arte, Elizabethan Theatre and Realism through acting, direction and design. The students spoke about their understanding of contexts and conventions of each style, articulating their thoughts and using excellent vocabulary. Congratulations to Fiona Bechtold for supporting these students throughout Unit 1 - the confidence to take creative risks and make considered theatrical choices shown by the cohort was most impressive.
