Student Feedback via PIVOT

“Student feedback is one of the most predictive and reliable ways to identify effective teaching practices."
Bill and Melinda gates Foundation (2013), ‘Ensuring Fair and reliable Measures of Effective teaching’, Measures of Effective Teaching Project.

As teachers we strive to be the best practitioners possible. We want to improve the learning of every single student in our class. We have a number of structures in place at Sandringham College to support this, but two things are integral: knowing every student and getting feedback from them regarding their learning. At the end of Term 1, every student in the college had the opportunity to give their teachers feedback. Teachers received a report to help identify areas of strength and weakness around the six Victorian Practice Principles: ‘high expectations’, ‘supportive environment’, ‘student voice’, ‘challenge’, ‘deep learning’ and ‘assessment and feedback’. This feedback from our students is invaluable and is used alongside growth data to help us understand our impact and improve our practice further.

“Pivot asks students what makes a difference to them.”
