Sandringham College has made a big splash in inter-school debating this year. We have a record number of teams entered in the competition, are chalking up some hard-fought wins, and have a dedicated squad of outstanding young people.

Our expert Year 12 team of Shaelea Hilliard, Oscar Daley and Harrison Dunsby have honed their skills over several seasons and this year have chalked up two very strong wins. They have not only been celebrating their own success though, they have also been sharing their wisdom with our Year 10 team who are currently on an undefeated streak with three impressive wins. Expect big things from Sophie Foster, Maja Dixon, Nina Yardley and Emilie Macquet.

There is also a lot of excitement amongst our junior debaters this season, with twenty-five Year 7-9 students all competing for the first time. These enthusiastic up-and-comers have been attending regular practices and have shown a lot of promise while learning the ropes of the rhetorical game. So far they have wrestled with a plan to subsidise holidays to regional Victoria, weighed the pros and cons of animal testing, campaigned for free public transport, and next, will discuss whether healthcare should prioritise certain groups in society.  It has been very encouraging to see them developing their skills. We look forward to them following in the footsteps of our seniors to become a real force in the competition in the future.
