Welcome Back!

Once again we’ve had a smooth start to the beginning of term. Everyone is ready to get back into learning, and we are all really excited about our upcoming school production ‘Sing and Play’ on June 1st. It’s a short, 9-week term, but it will be a busy one.

Parent Helpers

We warmly invite parents back into the classroom this term. Parent helpers are a valuable part of any teaching and learning program and have been very much missed in these COVID years.

The new Operations Guide states Schools must collect, record and hold vaccination information for all other visitors and volunteers working on school sites.

Parent helpers need to have a 3rd dose of vaccine to work with our students. Please sign in at the school office, and be prepared to show your vaccination details to our office staff and present your current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

If you would like to come and work in our classrooms, please make contact with your child’s teacher; you will be more than welcome. If you haven't attended a Parent Helpers session, please see Nicole or Sue and they will run you through our Parent Helpers booklet. We can also offer assistance in obtaining a WWCC.

RA Testing Remains For First 4 Weeks Of Term 2

In primary schools it is recommended that RA tests should continue to be conducted twice weekly. We are asking families to continue testing on Mondays and Thursdays. More RA tests will be sent home today.

Attendance

This term we are having an attendance blitz. The staff at Scoresby Primary School are committed, in partnership with parents/carers and children, to building a school which serves the community and of which the community is proud. Scoresby Primary School firmly believes that all children benefit from regular school attendance.

Full and regular attendance at school is crucial for a child’s future life chances and establishes a positive work ethic early in life. To this end, we will do all we can to encourage parents/carers to ensure their children achieve maximum possible attendance and that any problems which prevent full attendance are identified and acted on promptly.

Scoresby Primary School believes that in order to facilitate teaching and learning, good attendance is essential. Pupils cannot achieve their full potential if they do not regularly attend school.

Why is regular attendance at school important?

Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a greater chance in life. Your child will achieve better outcomes when they go to school all day, every school day as:

they learn better
they make friends
they are happier
they have a brighter future.

The Government regards 95% as the minimum satisfactory attendance for a school pupil.

Days off school add up to lost learning. Please don’t let your children miss out on their education.

April 26th Curriculum Day Update

We had a fantastic day of learning about teaching writing on Tuesday with our wonderful Teaching Partners, Steph and Tim. We started the day looking at the high aspirations that we have for our students in becoming lifelong writers, before exploring the three elements of becoming a writer:

Initiates Writing - our students need a reason for writing and are able to initiate their own writing
Writes well - students understand the craft of writing and what makes a good piece of writing
Effective writing process - students develop an effective writing process that works for them

We are very lucky to have a staff who are committed to being lifelong learners, always willing to learn and improve their practice.

Coffee and Chat With SPS Principals

We would like to invite our parents and carers to our inaugural 'Coffee and Chat with the Principals' on Friday 13th May at 9.30am after assembly. This is an opportunity to meet with Sue and Nic, ask questions and provide feedback on the school. Tea and coffee will be provided. We look forward to meeting with you in the staffroom after assembly.

Education Week

Now in its 78th year, Education Week celebrates the strengths and achievements of Victoria’s government education sector.

This year’s theme is 150 Years of Public Education, to coincide with this milestone anniversary for Victoria. It also coincides with our 150th year at Scoresby PS. We will be holding 3 main events to celebrate Education Week this year.

OPEN NIGHT - Tuesday 17th May, 5.30-7.00pm

This is an opportunity for families to walk around our school and see some of the great things that are happening in our classrooms. There will be special activities to complete as you walk around.

GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS MORNING - Friday 20th May, 9.00 -11.00am

A morning where families can come to school and enjoy some time together in classrooms. BYO morning tea picnic to share with your grandchildren from 10.30am onwards.

FOUNDATION 2023 OPEN MORNING - Saturday 21st May, 10.00am-12.00pm

For prospective parents enrolling 2023 Foundation students. School leaders will be talking about our school and what is on offer for students at Scoresby PS. Our School Captains will be conducting tours.

House Point Competition Term 1 Winners

Congratulations to Cook House for winning our House Point Competition for Term 1. To celebrate this wonderful achievement, Cook students will be able to come out of uniform, in their House colours (green), on Friday 6th May.
