SANDRINGHAM COLLEGE MEDICATION POLICY

All schools are required to put in place processes to ensure that any medications required by students are stored and administered correctly. Note - this does not apply to provision of medication for Anaphylaxis or Asthma which are covered in separate policies.

Painkillers such as aspirin and paracetamol are not stored at school or supplied to students as a standard first aid strategy as they can mask signs and symptoms of more serious injury or illness.

MEDICATION AUTHORITY If a student requires medication Sandringham College encourages parents to arrange for this to be taken outside of school hours.  However, where this is not possible the school requires an authority to administer which must be completed by the treating medical practitioner.  Please contact your students Year Level Leader for the appropriate documentation.

SELF ADMINISTRATION In some cases it may be appropriate for a student to self administer their medication.  In this situation the Principal may consult with parents/carers and consider advice from the treating medical practitioner before determining whether to allow a student to self administer their medication. Please contact your students Campus Principal to discuss.

ASTHMA - VENTOLIN Students should ensure that they carry their own Ventolin inhalers and also provide an asthma management kit and Asthma Action Plan to the admin office at their campus.
