Semester Reports

Information for Parents

Semester reports will be available from the last day of Term 2. Our reports assess what students can “do, make, say, and write”. From Year 7 to 10 students are assessed against the Victorian Curriculum. Information regarding the Victorian Curriculum can be accessed here  https://victoriancurriculum.vcaa.vic.edu.au/.

When assigning scores and ratings to student reports, teachers consider the student's level of achievement against the achievement standards for each curriculum area taught during the reporting period. The scores should accurately reflect the student's performance and progress at that point in time, regardless of the student's year level. The aim is to place the student on a continuum that best represents their level of achievement.

Teachers use these scores when making judgments against the standards for formal reporting to parents and the Department of Education.

Students in Years 11-12 are assessed against the study designs for their chosen subjects. Information on assessment can be found within the study designs here https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/curriculum/vce/vce-study-designs/Pages/vce-study-designs.aspx

Assessment and reporting to both students and parents is an integral part of effective curriculum delivery. Teachers implement assessments to monitor and gather evidence of student learning and achievement. At Sandringham College, we use assessment data to support continuous improvement in student learning.

As a key part of our ongoing assessment and reporting process, each student will complete common Assessed Learning Tasks (ALTs) in the format of a Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory (S/N), Percentage, and whether the assessment was normal, modified, or enhanced. The outcome of an ALT is reported to parents and students through COMPASS. Comments relating to your child’s achievement, and targeted strategies for improvement can be found under the Learning Tasks tab.

Learning habits are integral to the learning process so we report this at the end of each term.

We value the partnership that we have with parents and we thank you for your support of learning both at home and within the classroom. Our reports contain the teacher's assessment for each ALT, an indication of your child’s learning habits, and their attendance for the Semester. We encourage you to discuss with your child, their progress as well as areas for growth.
