Yesterday students from Grade four to six attended Aberfeldie Park for our annual School Athletics Carnival. We had approximately 250 students competing on the day with all participating in a minimum of three and a maximum of four of the following events.
Field Events | Track Events |
---|---|
Long Jump | 100m Sprint |
High Jump | 80m Hurdles |
Triple Jump | |
Discus |
It was a fantastic day of Athletic competition with all participants performing extremely well in their selected events. A huge appreciation to the staff and students on the success of the day and the manner of cooperation and engagement exhibited by all attending.
All field event ribbons were provided following the conclusion to each field event. Track events are based on a series of heats*, therefore event ribbons will be presented tomorrow. This year we urge both track and field event place getters to wear their ribbons on Friday.
The top two competitors in each age group and gender in all the field events and 80m Hurdles qualify to become a member of our school athletics team who will go on and represent Footscray West at the Footscray District Athletics Carnival to be held on Thursday 24th August at the same venue.
The top four competitors in the 100m will participate in one of the 100m or 200m and become a member of the four x 100m relay team in their age group and gender at the carnival. The top two qualifiers in each age group from our District Cross Country will represent the school in the 800m event.
Note that students can qualify for a maximum of three individual events, plus a relay at the District Carnival, which then decreases to two individual events plus a relay at the Maribyrnong Division Carnival for further qualifiers.
Information and notes for the Footscray District Carnival will be sent out early next week via Compass and students will be notified at school of the events they are participating in prior to this.
*Competitors in the 80m Hurdles and 100m Sprint are assessed on their time in completing the race. Winning or being a runner up in your heat does not guarantee qualification as other heats may have faster times.
