Teaching and Learning

Spotlight on Teaching and Learning at Craigieburn Secondary College

As part of our relentless focus on excellence in teaching and learning, all teachers at CSC work together in ‘Collaborative Teaching Teams’. These teams, each with an instructional leader, meet weekly and utilize the Department’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) framework to improve outcomes for their students across a range of subject disciplines and year levels. The work of the teams is to:

  • Evaluate and Diagose- looking at student data and analyzing what it tells us about our learners
  • Prioritise and Set Goals-  Determining what will make the greatest difference and creating a goal to be achieved by the end of the cycle
  • Develop and Plan- Collaborating on a plan for the teaching and learning which utilises research-based strategies (HITS)
  • Implement and Monitor- Observing each other doing the work in classrooms, providing constructive feedback and evaluating student work samples to see what else is needed
  • Re-evaluate and Re-diagnose- Measuring the impact of the work and determining next steps

In the recent presentations from each team it was clear that this work is enhancing the precision with which we teach, in turn making a difference to the outcomes for our learners. A key theme emerging from the presentations was the value of empowering students as partners in their own learning.

We look forward to seeing this work expanded and embedded in semester two.
