Week 8 - Home Learning

Zoom Meeting 26/8/21

We had 19 students and 4 staff (Mrs Flanagan, Mrs Harrison, Mr. Hyatt and Mrs Burton) present at our Year 1/2 Zoom meeting this morning at 10:00a.m. Thank you to all of the students who brought something to share.  It was so good to see everybody's faces and to hear everyone's fabulous news.

Marcus showed us his cat, Nina shared a Picasso artwork and a beautiful Swedish horse toy, Florence shared a photo of a horse with its foal. Ellody was on a phone line and told us a story about seeing an echidna. Hannah had a baby lamb to show us. Today Leroy just listened to all of our news. Airlee brought her puppy dog Chilli and Rebee showed us Billy, the goat. Josie brought her little brother Ollie for her news and Hugh had some samples of rocks and crystals to share with us all.

Shaun showed us his pet ringtail possum and Grace Fletcher told us that she has been learning how to sew.  Lochie Hoy had a toy army tank and Ryan showed us some great craft he had made. Jessica was going to show us her horse, then she was going to show us her cat but the cat ran away!   Kiara talked about her dog at home.  Katie showed us her toy Llama and Grace S showed us her lovely dog.

We saw other siblings (brothers and sisters) in the backgrounds of our Zoom too.  We saw Penny, Henry, Ben, Lilah, Emily, Ellie, Morgan and Lucy.  It was so good to hear everyone's voices and see their faces.  Thank you for joining.  We will have another Zoom at the same time next week.

Thanks everyone,

Mrs Flanagan

The Leaves by Nina Blomfield

I am walking on a very long, dusty path in the forest. The colourful leaves swoosh in the trees when the wind blows. Some leaves fall like butterflies to the ground.

My Science Experiment         28-8-2021

With my science experiment we had to do two attempts. The first attempt we created a square for a base and built up but we realised that the higher we built it, it got more unstable. For our second attempt we tried it again with a triangular base and built in. It worked and it was successful so we added another pyramid to make it a little stronger to stand up.

What happens when you use a Square base against a Triangle base?

The higher you build with a square base it gets unstable each time you add something else to it. With the triangle base you need to make a pyramid to make it stable on the bottom and add more small pyramids to the top of the base pyramid.

What happens when the tower gets taller?

The square base gets more unstable when it gets higher. The triangular base tower is more  stable than the square base.

What happens when you use shorter spaghetti?

It limits you to the size you want to make it. Because when we used short bits of dry spaghetti we had limited options to make on the pyramid.

What are some ways you could strengthen your tower using other materials?

It would be sturdier if you used plastic straws and marshmallows because the plastic straws are thicker and can hold more weight than the dry Spaghetti.

In conclusion, I enjoyed making a marshmallow tower with my family and the height of the tower was 37cm long and 27cm wide.
