Grade 5 Snapshot
Dear Parents,
We are into Spring and the weather was SO kind to us on the weekend. We hope you were able to get out and enjoy the warmer weather with your families.
Online Behaviour
Thank you for your continued support of remote learning. We know that it is a challenge for many families.
We would like to bring it to your attention that we have been notified of some disrespectful online behaviour recently between students in different online games and chat forums. Whilst this has not occurred during our remote learning activities, we believe it is important for students to be reminded and supported to demonstrate respectful behaviours online at all times. We would appreciate your support in managing the safety and wellbeing of students online. We encourage families to have open discussions about the different apps and games being used and the associated behaviours that contribute to positive and respectful online communication.
The following is a section from our Acceptable Use Agreement that you may use as a reflection:
When I use digital technologies and the internet I communicate respectfully by:
• working to stop bullying by not sending, responding to, or engaging in mean or bullying messages or passing them on to others, and telling a trusted adult when I witness this type of behaviour
• always thinking and checking that what I write or post is polite and respectful
• being kind to my friends and classmates and thinking about how the things I do or say online might make them think or feel
As a further support, please have a look at these websites (esafety.gov.au and thinkuknow.org.au) that contain some useful tips and strategies.
Additional Wellbeing Activities
We have decided to include additional Wellbeing activities for the students each week to give them that extra mental health and wellbeing support they need during Home Learning. This will be guided by The Resilience Project website and their focus on Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.
Seesaw
Next week, we will make some changes to what students are uploading to Seesaw to avoid confusion between Google Classroom and Seesaw. Grade 5 students will only upload their Friday Wellbeing and STEAM tasks to Seesaw. On no other day will they be required to upload a task to Seesaw unless the individual teacher specifies. We will continue to create learning engagements with Seesaw in Term 4, so it is important for students to develop their understanding of this program.
Google Classroom Assignments
Students will continue to see two Classroom Assignments. One will have the daily schedule and tell them what they need to upload for the day. This is the work we will comment on. The second one will be all ‘other tasks’ that they have completed that day (besides specialists). This is for teachers to have an extra record of their learning and check for understanding throughout the week.
Reading Assessment
This week students will be involved in one-on-one Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessments with their teacher, between Monday and Wednesday. Your child will be given a Google Meet time through Google Classroom to login with their teacher to complete this assessment.
