From the Head of Sport

As we move closer to the restart of sport in the AIC competition, it has been refreshing to see many activities return to our sporting fields. There is a lot of information available to us with how to properly implement sport back into our colleges, and everyone can rest assured that we are following these guidelines as appropriately as we can.

The information is rapidly changing and just this week hearing that three groups of 20 students can now all exercise on an AFL field even caught us by surprise! We are in no hurry to rush the process, however, and will still follow a gradual process of reintroducing sport for our students.

In this newsletter, we are now able to release more specific dates for each sport. We have worked hard over the past week to finalise our calendar for the remainder of the year. This information is presented below in each individual sport section along with information about uniform requirements. Please keep in mind that there may be slight changes to this schedule and that there are a few trial dates that are still To Be Confirmed (TBC).

TRIALS PROCESS

Understandably the start to our Term 3 season and the process of trialling students under restrictions was always going to be difficult. Given these circumstances, we will still be doing the best we can to select students in the right teams that match their ability. It will be much more difficult than usual and we thank you for your understanding in this process.

PLAYING SCHEDULES

There will be another AIC meeting next week to look at finalising the number of teams that will be involved and to look at what healthy and safety guidelines for AIC will be in place. For rugby union in particular, this meeting will determine what competition our D-F teams may end up in as we fill in for other colleges who have lesser teams. Following this, we hope to finalise possible playing schedules for each season.

GAME TIMES

Due to the current government restrictions and health guidelines in place, the usual game times will be slightly altered this year. This will be to account for fewer spectators at venues and allow for large groups to leave before the next teams arrive. We will also need to take into account cleaning procedures that will need to occur in the change-over between games.

POSSIBLE SPORT CLASHES

It is at this time that we remind all students and families of the clear college policy that MCA sports take priority over all external club sporting commitments. While we understand there is an inevitable clash this year to the usual flow of sport throughout the year we expect all students to participate in their chosen sports for their College. We will always make an effort to support students and their many commitments and it is important that all students are upfront and honest if this could be the case.

UNIFORMS

We have outlined the uniform requirements for each sport below. There was correspondence this week from the College regarding a new supplier of uniforms commencing in Term 3. As it was mentioned, this will not significantly change the uniforms we currently have in place. Only new students will need to purchase new uniforms from the uniform shop so there is no need to throw away what you currently have. All current uniforms still remain in place and can be worn.

SIGN ON’S

Today was meant to be the final day for signing on for all remaining team sports. We have extended the sign-on process through this weekend so we urge all students to make sure they have signed on before Monday to allow us to organise teams and coaches accurately.

WATER BOTTLES

We are NOT allowed to supply sets of water bottles for teams this year so all students will need to have their own water bottle with their name clearly marked on it. We are selling college water bottles out of the sports office and these can be purchased through the usual monitor system via the link here -  https://bit.ly/MCAOnlineShop

Kind Regards
