Excursions

Italian

In week 7, year 8 students were given the opportunity to live, breath and eat Italy as part of their unit on Italian Food. Over the course of three days, students visited the suburb of Carlton, the Little Italy of Melbourne. Their day started quite early. In fact, at 8.30 students were ready to walk to Craigieburn Station to get on a train to the city. Arriving at Melbourne Central, they either walked or caught a train to reach the iconic Lygon Street. They visited the Italian Museum at COASIT where they discovered the big influence that Italians had on the Australian culture. However, the highlight of the visit was yet to come. Students were given time to explore Lygon Street independently and taste some of the best Italian food outside of Italy. Authentic Italian pizza, pasta and, of course, gelato were among the most chosen options by students. Meeting back at Piazza Italia (literally Italy Square) students looked happy and relaxed, although some wanted more time to explore and eat all the food! The train ride back to school was filled with memories and Instagram posts as the Year 8s had a day they’ll never forget.

Merit Excellence Excursion

As part of the reward/positive feedback process at the College teachers issue students with Merits. Students receive Merits for demonstrating the college values of Respect, Responsibility, Community and Achievement. During semester 1 this year we were lucky enough to have taken 50 students from across all year levels to participate in a Merit Excellence Excursion at Oz Tenpin Bowling, Epping. The students were separated into teams with their friends and a staff member and had loads of fun. At times they were a little competitive which was nice to see, as well as encouraging each other and celebrating a strike or amazing bowl.

Events like this are a great way for staff and students to build relationships and make new friends with people they might not interact with normally at school.

Year 8 Airborn

On Tuesday the 12th of November, Year 8 EAL students went on an excursion to Airborn with Miss Rizko and Mrs Moodley. The excursion provided an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build resilience, listen to and provide instructions, and interact with peers appropriately – all whilst having a great time and bouncing to the point of exhaustion! A fantastic day was had by all.
