The Great Outdoors

Year 9 Outdoor Education

Earlier this term, 14 students and 3 staff embarked on a camp to Waratah Bay as part of the year 9 Outdoor Education program. The camp involved students displaying the key skills that they had obtained throughout the semester, along with applying their knowledge to unfamiliar contexts. The group was able to build upon their surfing skills by completing a lesson at the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club. Some of the students ended up surfing their first wave while others put on a surfing masterclass that may have left the staff a little envious of their riding ability. Although the weather didn’t play its part throughout our time there, the students made the most of it by exploring the natural surrounds, searching for local wildlife, and trying their hand at stone baking with the improvisation of a trangia and stones from the ocean. The group showed great resilience to not let the weather get the better of them. A big thank you to Mr Archibald and Miss Scott for taking the time to help give the students an experience they will remember for years to come.
