The Arts at CSC

Performing Arts

Term 4 was another busy term, as we wrapped up the year and showcased our work from Semester 2 Music and Dance classes. Craigieburn: Live and Just Dance 2.0 were held in November, with huge crowds coming along to support our students and the Performing Arts department. We also held a new event, ‘Sound of Summer’, an outdoor concert held on a Friday afternoon, where our rock bands could perform a solid set of music like a real gig. It was a wonderful event and something we definitely want to add to our 2020 calendar.

Thank you to all of our students, and our music teachers, Mr Sherlock, Mr Martin, Mr Naylor, Ms Claridge, Ms Rose and Mr Archibald and our dance teachers Ms Schneider and Mr Mifsud. This year has been extremely successful and provided brilliant opportunities for our students to showcase their abilities. If you couldn’t make it to one of our performances this year – put it at the top of your ‘to-do’ list in 2020. The students at CSC sure know how to put on a show!

Come from Away

Come from away is an amazing musical play that has 5 productions featured all around the world. The amazing Ms Gorman and Mr Cummins took 20 students from CSC to go and watch this amazing musical about a town that felt the impact of 9/11. In this play they had so many amazing elements that I and lots of others enjoyed as they added light to such a tragedy, there was comedy but didn’t completely try and cancel out all the sad parts of the real story.  We all really enjoyed this amazing play, and how they put it all into one story. Afterwards we had the opportunity to be able to be apart of the Q and A as we and other schools asked a range of different questions to do with the rehearsals, crew and the people who the story was based on as well as other questions about the story line. We all had an amazing day and would encourage any one to go watch it.

On the 11th of December, students from Craigieburn Secondary went to go see a Tony nominated, Broadway musical ‘Come From Away’ at the Comedy Theatre. It was about what happened during the five days on the 9/11 event, and many of the students were moved to tears with the story that the cast members presented them with. The show wasn’t just moving, it was spectacular!  With only 12 cast members for the show, it was a musical all of the students will never forget.

After the show, the students stayed back to watch and interact with 3 of the cast members and 2 people from the stage management crew during a Q&A. They shared how the actors and actresses felt whilst playing the characters and how it shed a light on what happened during the event of 9/11 that a lot of people don’t know about.

Art Exhibition

Once again the high standard of the art displayed out our Art Exhibition was amazing!  Held in Week 8 this term, students were able to showcase their pieces for the wider community.
