What's happening in our Learning Communities - Year 1 and 2
Earlier in the term, I wrote about the Year 1 and 2 community focusing on learning about Victoria and the special places around our state. Over the term, they have learnt about key locations around Victoria including:
- Yarra River
- Port Phillip Bay
- Maribyrnong River
- Twelve Apostles
- Great Ocean Road
- The Grampians
- The Otways
- Royal Botanical Gardens
- St Patrick's Cathedral
- Phillip Island
As they learned about each place, they completed their Travel Diaries writing about the history of the place; its important features; where it is located; how people are connected to the place, both spiritually and physically, and how they feel about the place, what connects them to it.
Over the last two weeks, the children have chosen a place they feel connected to and wanted to find out more about. They need to create an informational poster for others to give facts about their chosen place and to try to persuade others to visit there. Some of the children are also creating models of their places. Check out the photos below to see them at work.
The Year 1 and 2 Community will be presenting their work in the next few weeks. They have learned a lot about Victoria and the places that are special to us.
