Compass changes

This week there will be a change to the presentation of Compass Class Page to students and parents. It will include the following:

  • Updated design and new dynamic header images
  • Teacher Notes and Lesson plans display their audience options
  • Communication options, reports and exports are now all grouped for easier access
  • It will look more like the image below:

Progress Reports

There has been some feedback from parents/carers, and we have discussed this in Principal meetings during the last week. The next reports are to be published on Wednesday 30 March. Some of this feedback has led to changes in the approach by teachers and we thank parents/carers for their input.

Parent /Teacher Conferences

These are going to be held on Tuesday, 5 April from 11:30 am until 6:30 pm. Bookings can be made from Friday 1 April through Compass. Should you not be available to attend and need some discussion with the teachers please feel free to email the teacher or contact a Year Level Coordinator. Otherwise, there is plenty of information available through Compass via Progress Reports, Learning Tasks and Chronicle.

Behavioural Improvements

We are pleased to report there has been a significant improvement in the overall behaviour of the students at NGSC. This can be attributed to the diligence from staff and especially the Student Management Team. We understand that there will need to be ongoing vigilance and the implementation of further strategies to ensure that there is not a deterioration to behaviours as experienced earlier in the year.

Positive Rewards Morning Tea

Students who performed positively in the Progress Reports were invited by the Sub School Teams to attend a breakfast hosted by the Sub School Leaders and the Principal Team. Students went into a prize draw and the Be Bold Be Heard Girl’s donated Big Bash League Merchandise to all recipients. Due to the celebrated success of this initiative, it will be conducted again following the second Reports and will include students who achieve more than 10 Positive or Green Entries in Compass. The next morning tea will be held on Friday 1 April.

INFORMATION EVENING

The NGSC Information Evening was held on Thursday 10 March with over 400 people in attendance. Families from as far and wide as the Golden Plains, Lara, Anakie and Ceres were present. Our student leaders from the SRC, iLeaders and Excellence in Sport Program represented the college outstandingly, complimenting the amazing work that staff from all learning areas and the effort made setting up their display areas. With the risk of inclement weather, it was decided to move the initial presentations back into the Gym. It was very pleasing to see the number of enthusiastic students assisting with the night and providing the opportunity for parents/carers and students to ask questions about the school.  Well done to Ms Eales for organising the night and to all staff, students and parents who assisted with the night.

PRIMARY SCHOOL VISITS

These last few weeks we have had 500 students from local primary schools visit our College and participate in Cooking, Art, PE and STEM activities. They were led by Year 7 SRC members and former students of their primary schools and our dedicated teachers who gave up their time to run the activities.

Student Leadership Conference

On Friday 18 March, Faith Qoon and James Smith presented to student leaders in 30 Primary Schools across the region. The students were fantastic and thoughtful in their approach and negotiated some challenging questions from the Grade 6 students. Winchelsea Primary School, who led the initiative, were thoroughly impressed by our students.

Public Speaking Training (BBBH)

This year the Be Bold Be Heard Girls are taking more ownership of their Forum and will be taking on some of the responsibilities of running the proceedings on the day. To support the students Samantha Krajina (BBBH MC) loaned us some of her time and imparted some of her public speaking tips, tricks and skills. The students came from schools all around Geelong to participate and were so inspired by the session.

BE BOLD BE HEARD FORUM

In the lead up to the Middle Years Girl’s Forum 23 students from NGSC gathered to dissect our Attitudes to School Survey data. In small groups with staff facilitators the students began to identify the actions they think will have big impacts on our school data in 2022. These will be discussed further at the Forum, then will be part of a broader action plan to be shared with other members of the school community.

AFL ROOKIE ME TESTING

1 APRIL

On Friday 1 April up to 50 students from Years 7 to 9 will take part in an AFL testing event. The AFL has offered this opportunity to be fitness tracked and is for students of a different cultural background or Indigenous. It also continues the connection between the College and the Cats Multicultural Development Team.
