Reflection

Today is a very special day for our school as the church and a lot of communities world wide with Irish heritage, celebrating our patron saint, Saint Patrick. But did you know that Patrick wasn't Irish at all, he was actually British. He was kidnapped as a teenager and brought to Ireland as a slave. Later he escaped, returned to his family and his studies and became a priest. Years later he returned to Ireland as a missionary and bishop.

By the time Patrick died in 461, a great many Irish families had turned to Christ. Many Irish people came to Australia in the nineteenth century and helped the church to grow. The closing prayer for today is part of a long poem that it is believed that St Patrick had written.

If you would like to find out a lot more about the life of St Patrick, I have  a more detailed article in the Classroom News/Gallery section of this newsletter.

Prayer

I rise today

through God's strength to pilot me,

God's might to uphold me,

God's wisdom to guide me,

God's eye to hear me,

God's word to speak for me,

God's hand to guide me,

God's way to lie before me,

God's shield to protect me.

I thank God through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

CARITAS-Project Compassion

This Lent, let us consider how we can ensure that we work ‘for all future generations' around the world.

Together, we can make a difference now, and For All Future Generations.

FEATURE STORIES

Across the six weeks of Lent, CARITAS share stories of resilient people trying to ‘be more’ for their families and communities. Read their inspiring tales, and see how your generosity makes a difference.

Project Compassion Boxes

We are encouraged during Lent to give greater attention to those who might be in need. One way we are able to do this is by supporting Project Compassion over the forty days of Lent by making monetary contributions (big or small) to these boxes.

Please return your Project Compassion Boxes to school during the first week of next term.
