Bell Shakespeare Incursion 2019
In the final weeks of this semester students in grades 3/4/5/6 had the opportunity of experiencing in Bell Shakespeare’s performance of “Just Romeo and Juliet”.
Following the success of ‘Just Macbeth’ the latest play is another adaptation from Andy Griffiths this time ‘Just Doomed.’ The play follows Griffith’s characters Andy, Danny and Lisa in their quest to conquer Shakespeare’s greatest love story, ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Filled with Shakespeare’s classic text and characters, the play cleverly mirrors the action and themes of the original play.
In Creative Arts’ sessions following the performance students provided feedback:
“I liked the character Andy. He was really funny doing all the sound effects even when he did the balcony scene. I learnt that Shakespeare died on his birthday and he created 37 plays. I think it is good to learn about history.” Kingston room 12
“I loved the scene where Romeo and Juliet were going to kiss and Andy spoiled it. It was very funny. I liked the way Andy asked for advice from the audience too. I hope Bell Shakespeare come back again they are amazing. I think Romeo and Juliet has an inspiring morale to the story.” Emma room 8
“I liked the actor who played Andy he expressed his emotions, interacted with the audience and he was a great actor. The play shows students about life and the real world.” Mia room 8
“I liked the part when Andy said “to pee or not to pee that is the question” when he was in the bush or tree – that was very funny. I rate the play 9 and a half out of 10.” Ryder room 13
“I like Andy who played Andy, how funny he moved and his ideas. I like Lisa, she was always positive and confident. I think that we should learn more about Shakespeare’s plays because they are so famous. I rate the play 10 out of 10.” Queena room 11.
“I liked the whole play, especially enjoyed the parts where any characters spoke directly to the audience, the soliloquys. I think primary school students should learn more about Shakespeare plays because they were so great. If you don’t teach the next generation then his stories will be lost. I rate the play 10 out of 10.” Phoebe room 11

Presently showing at the Counihan galley in Brunswick is the exhibition ‘Fantastic Worlds.’
‘Fantastic Worlds’ is an exhibition and public program that celebrates and explores the fantastic and imaginary characters and worlds of selected Australian picture books through original artworks, animations and associated media. Curated for families and children (aged 2 to 10 years old) this exhibition invites visitors to get up close to experience these imaginative worlds and the curious, mysterious and whimsical characters that occupy these realms.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Graeme Base, Lance Balcin, Leigh Hobbs, Elise Hurst, Alison Lester, Marc Martin, Cat Rabbit, Shaun Tan and Anna Walker.
By popular demand the exhibition has been extended to Sunday July 14. Definitely worth a visit!!!
