NAIDOC march
Unfortunately schools couldn't attend the community march this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, so we held our own event at school on Monday 9 November. Secondary students marched around the oval in stage groups and held a brief ceremony.
Each stage begun their celebration by acknowledging country, thank you to Krystall Hanna (stage 4); Bree Thurtell and Anna Smith (stage 5) and Tyrese Ah-See (stage 6), you all spoke extremely well. Ms Pritchard informed the gathering that NAIDOC Week began back in 1938 when about 1000 people marched through the streets of Sydney on Australia Day because they were unhappy about the way Aboriginal people were treated. NAIDOC Week has changed from a protest about Australia Day to being a celebration of Aboriginal culture, history and achievements. This year the theme is Always Was, Always Will Be it recognises that the First Nations people have been caring for the land for more than 65,000 years.
Aboriginal students led the march for each stage and certificates were presented by Ms Pritchard and Mitchell Leonard around the Yarning Circle. The certificates acknowledged the achievements and improvements of Aboriginal students.
Thank you to Mitch Leonard and Rev Anne for helping to make the celebrations a success.

Young Archies
The Sparke group of NSW Public Schools recently held the Young Archies Art competition inviting budding primary artists to submit a portrait. The theme was Local Heroes. Each school runs a local school competition and then selects artworks for the exhibition and final judging.
This year due to COVID we couldn’t hold an exhibition of artworks so we have created an online voting exhibition via Facebook and invited the public to vote for their favourite art work. Local artist Loretta Blake and her daughter Larissa Blake will be selecting winning entries but this year we have also included a public vote. The winner will be announced.
Thanks to staff from Anson Street School Mrs Cathy Steer and Mrs Cathy Huggett for organising the competition and exhibition

Book Week
The theme 'Wild Minds and Curious Creatures' for Bookweek 2020 saw many students and staff put their thinking caps on to come up with outfits that matched the theme. We had dragons, playing cards, the Mad Hatter, giraffes, Peter Rabbit, Where's Wally, the Grinch, a fairy, Incy Wincy Spider, a unicorn, Eeyore, and many more. Students enjoyed a special morning tea of fruit and a cupcake they had cooked in class. The weather was amazing and classes enjoyed parading around the oval and grooving to music. Thanks to all the staff, students and families that made the day an enjoyable one for us all.
