Catholic Values and Principles

The Common Good / Solidarity

The Catholic Church and we at St. Patrick's believe that we are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic and ideological differences. We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, wherever they may be. Loving our neighbour has global dimensions in a shrinking world. At the core of the virtue of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace. Pope Paul VI taught that “if you want peace, work for justice.” The Gospel calls us to be peacemakers. Our love for all our sisters and brothers demands that we promote peace in a world surrounded by violence and conflict.

Year 2 Catholic Students Preparation – First Reconciliation

Preparation for First Reconciliation has begun. The children will make their First Reconciliation on Friday 22 November after 11:30 am Mass.

OCTOBER - The Month Of The ROSARY

On the 7th October, the Catholic community throughout the world celebrated the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary. This day is an important day for our diocese as Our Lady of the Rosary is the Patron of the Diocese of Armidale.

We have been asked by Bishop Kennedy to pray the Rosary during the month of October. We will be praying for the intention of long soaking rain for our land.

The Rosary is a prayer in honour of Mary, it is a prayer centred on Christ. St. Pope John Paul II described the Rosary as a Gospel prayer, a memorial of the Scriptures.

The mysteries of the Rosary tell the story of the life of Jesus in four parts: 1) The Joyful Mysteries, 2) The Sorrowful Mysteries, 3) The Glorious Mysteries, 4) The Luminous Mysteries or Mysteries of Life.

Through the beads of the Rosary we follow the life of Mary and Jesus.

OCTOBER - Catholic Mission Month

Catholic Mission - Socktober!

The theme of World Mission Month 2019 is “Do not fear, for I am with you.” The focus country is Ghana, where the Church seeks to provide shelter, food, education, and life fulfilling opportunities for children in need, especially those with disabilities.

This Socktober we are inviting our students to engage with people experiencing challenges in the developing world, such as countries like Ghana, through the language they understand best – play! Children are being challenged this year to make a difference through playing the world famous game of soccer!

Soccer unites communities and develops children physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. So many children in the developing world love to play soccer, but do not have access to a proper soccer ball. As a result, before playing their soccer game they come together and create a recycled soccer ball or a ‘Sockball’.

A Catholic Mission team member commented:

“When I saw the recycled ‘Sockball’ for the first time in Zambia, I realised that these children are not only keen and talented soccer players, but resourceful. Their initiative and perseverance with using the recycled ball leaves me in wonder… our children in Australia could learn so much from this simple round ball that brings so much joy here!”

During the next week the children will come up with ideas to show how St Patrick's can support children in Ghana through play !
