Principal's report

End of Term

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered and/or contributed to ensuring the children of MPW were able to participate in a wealth of educational experiences, most recently, the Free Activity Day (FAD), which could not have proceeded without the support of our school community members. Thank you also to staff for all of their tireless work in supporting the children of MPW each and every day. May you enjoy time with the family over the coming two weeks and we all look forward to the wonderful educational experiences that ensue next term.

Movie Night

Thank you to all members of the MPW school community who attended the movie night. It was a wonderful evening and as soon as the amount that has been raised is known it will be published in this newsletter.

School Council

The new school council met on Monday this week. The current School Council endorsed the Annual Implementation Plan. The new School Council met following this meeting and elected office bearers. Louise Evans was elected School Council president. Ben Atchison was elected vice president. Murray Kingsley was returned as a community member and was elected school council treasurer. An induction session for school councilors will be conducted on 18th April.

School Council Report 27th March 2017

Life is all about change and so it was with School Council as we bid farewell to outgoing councillors and welcomed in some fresh faces.

A big thank you to outgoing councillors, Paul Girdler, Phil Peacock, Andrew Edbrooke (Parents) and Karen Ghosn (Staff) for your valued contributions.

A warm welcome to new councillors, Simone Beever, Lee Cath, Jarrod Smith, Nigel Touissant (Parents) and Alyena Mohummadally (Staff)

Office bearers are re-elected each year, with congratulations to

  • Louise Evans (President)
  • Ben Atchison (Vice President)
  • Murray Kingsley (Treasurer)

Finally, hello again to continuing councillors Christine Clancy and Kylie Brown (Parents), Vicki McCormack, Michelle Bove and Helen Lockart (Staff), in addition to Jeff Lyon (Executive Officer) and Sandra Monaghan (Secretary).

Early in Term 2 the Council will undertake governance education to ensure we are well prepared to deal with a wide range of scenarios the school may face.

Council endorsed the 2017 Annual Implementation Plan. This is an important document that describes key initiatives for the year, how they will be resourced, managed and monitored for progress and success. This fits within a broader School Strategic Plan. Much hard work has gone into this so well done to all involved.

The 2017 Budget was also endorsed, again following detailed work from the Resources Committee. MPWPS is in a healthy financial position.

In line with the Big Kids' Council above, we have a fantastic new cohort of Junior School Council representatives spanning Prep through to Grade 6. Congratulations to all who were willing to put their hand up and get involved in making the school a great place to be. We look forward to hearing more of the students' perspective during the year.

The entire community continues to be very proud of Bree White's trailblazing efforts playing for Collingwood in the inaugural AFLW competition. Check out Bree and some of her MPWPS fans at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqAAsgXgrKQ.

Movie Night was judged to be a huge success with a special call out to all the kids in animal outfits whose rain dances successfully kept the clouds away for a nice change. Well done to our fabulous fund raising committee for organising a superb evening and to the whole community for throwing your support behind a very enjoyable event. As icing on the cake we have now raised sufficient funds to install new water bubblers.
