Diverse and Connected Communities

To assist the ‘finding out’ stage of Diverse and Connected Communities in Inquiry, a guide met us (the 5/6 group) and we took a tour of some significant places in the city that have been influenced by diverse cultural groups.

We discovered that if we didn’t have all the migration, which includes these diverse cultural groups, Melbourne wouldn’t be what it is today. We visited places such China Town, the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Arcade, Hosier Lane, Flinders Street, Lonsdale Street (Greek precinct) and watched the smoking ceremony on a big screen from Jack Charles’ State Funeral.

Every student received a brief biographical paragraph, and at various places the guide would say, ‘Who is ….?’ and the student who had that person went out the front and our guide explained about the link between the person and place.

We looked at paintings of what the city looked like in the past and statues of different significant people.

We were even lucky enough to get a taste of food from various cultural groups.

Here are some photos from our day.
