Reflection

This Sunday is the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. It is also the anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945.

The Transfiguration is a celebration of the life and glory of God, which shone out in Jesus like a brilliant light. Hiroshima is a day of sad memories of the death of seventy thousand people caused by the war and the destructive white blast of the bomb.

If we obey the Father's mountain message from the cloud and listen to Jesus, we will choose the way of life and peace, not violence and death.

Prayer

God of glory,

it is good for us to be here.

Reveal your Son to us now

in the message of the prophets

and the witnesses of the apostles.

Help us listen to his voice

and welcome him in faith.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

St Mary of the Cross Liturgy

Very soon the large majority of schools in our diocese including us will be remembering and celebrating the life of Australia's very own saint, St Mary of the Cross. St Mary of the Cross feast day is on Tuesday 8th August. Born in Melbourne in 1842, Mary grew up in Penola, a small town in South Australia. In 1866, Mary began a religious order named the Sisters of St Joseph. She and her sisters opened schools in isolated places and served the poor in many ways. Their unselfish work won the respect of many people.

Even though St Patrick's was founded by the Sisters of Mercy, we like St Mary of the Cross strive to grow in the selfless love and deep respect that she showed for all. As a mark of respect, the school will be having a liturgy to remember St Mary of the Cross this upcoming Tuesday 8th August at 11.30 am in the library. Everyone is invited to join us. We hope to see you there.

First Reconciliation and Confirmation

In a fortnight's time, information will be sent home to the families of all eligible First Reconciliation and Confirmation candidates in regard to both preparation programs that will be commencing later in the term. The information in both documents will outline all aspects that are associated with both programs. If you have any questions/queries in regards to the Sacrament of First Reconciliation or the Sacrament of Confirmation, please feel free to contact Mr Hyatt.
