From the Principal

Welcome to Term 2

I want to welcome back all POPS families to term 2. I hope everyone spent time with their families over the holiday break. From all reports, our students have come back energised and ready for a new term of learning. Looking at the School Calendar page, there are lots of events already planned for the nine-week term.

POPS Paper goes digital!

Launching our first digital edition of the POPS paper is so exciting. The benefit of a digital newsletter is that it is mobile and tablet friendly. Every newsletter will automatically optimise viewing to whatever device you are using. It is also more dynamic, meaning we can add photo galleries and links that allow readers to quickly click on and go to pages or sites. Another fantastic feature is that users can choose their preferred language to read the newsletter. Google Translate is the platform used for this feature.

As we are using a new platform, there will inevitably be glitches or errors that may arise and require correction. We kindly request your patience and welcome constructive and positive feedback to assist us in enhancing various aspects of the digital newsletter.

POPS ANZAC Service

On Monday, our year six leaders organised a moving ANZAC Day service held outside by our newly installed flagpoles. It was a poignant event, allowing students and parents to pay their respects to the brave men and women who have fought or are currently serving our country. Congratulations to our year 6 leaders for confidently presenting and Mrs Debono for organising the ceremony.

Our year 6 students also represented our school during an ANZAC Service hosted by the Rotary Club of Templestowe. Our School captains, Mia E and Gillie R, laid a wreath on behalf of the school.

Please visit the From the Classroom page to read some writing by our Year 5/6 students about ANZAC Day.

Important date change

Regrettably, the consultant we had scheduled for the upcoming Curriculum Day on Friday, June 9th (before the long weekend) is unavailable. However, they have informed us that they can accommodate the school on Tuesday, June 13th (after the Public Holiday). As a result, the School Council has approved the change of date to Tuesday, June 13th.

Open Night

Victoria's annual Education Week celebration is approaching, taking place from Sunday, May 14th to Saturday, May 20th. As part of this year's festivities, our school will once again have an Open Evening, allowing current and prospective parents to visit between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Throughout the evening, class teachers will be organising various activities for students and their families. To cap off the night, the Senior Choir will perform in the Arts Centre.

Upcoming PA Events

May is a busy time for our dedicated Parents' Association as they have many events organised. Next week we have our annual Fun Run on the bottom oval around the running track.

  • F-2 Fun run is on Thursday, May 4th
  • Yr 3- 6  is on Friday, May 5th
  • The Mother's Day/Special Person Breakfast and Mother's Day/Special Person Day Stall will be held on Friday, May 12th

(Mrs Berardini is looking for a group of Dads to organise this event.)

  • The Parent Information Night will be held on Tuesday, May 30th. The topic  'Understanding Anxiety and Academic Performance' will be presented by Emma- Rose Maber, psychologist.

The school appreciates all the fundraising and activities organised by the PA. We are very fortunate to have such a committed and involved parent community.

Please visit the Parents' Association page for more information about upcoming events.

Have a great week.
