From the Classroom

Year 5/6 Quick Writes

Laughing, running in the sun.

BANG! BOOM! A war has just begun.

Shouting, screaming, crying in fear.

Oh no, come help me I’m over here!

Now lying down in my grave

There’s no one else that I can save.

B.V Year 5

All the time is fun, laughter and games

Not a care in the world!

Dark and loud

Mostly destroyed wildflowers might never be seen again.

Until we remember them by their flower, that grows over the sadness and fear.

E.J Year 5

Sunrise, a new day, bright

Kids squeal and scream in delight

Laughing, frolicking in shallow daylights

Blank slate, hard ground

Birds chirping, lovely sound

Dogs growling at a dirt mound

Better days

10 years later- here we stand

Upon the waters-solid sand

More ships arrive, entrance so ground

The shooting begins

Dust clouds travel upwards to the sun

We yell, but this time, it’s not much fun

The rocks are too hard- there’s nowhere to run

We must fight

Buried under grainy dirt

Used to, but now, it doesn’t hurt

We are fighters, we belong

As the spirit of ANZAC forever lives on

A.N Year 6

It was like yesterday, I saw my boys. I can remember them running outside and playing together. They were so young when they left. It must have been so scary for them. I wish I could see them one last time, running and chasing each other. Look at them now wishing they could come home again. My poor sweet boys.

R.K Year 6

At the beginning of the day, 3 little boys innocently played on their farm, chasing each other. They had no clue of the terrifying event that was just about to begin.

Three young soldiers ran for their lives, hoping to always have their siblings close by, every time they looked back. Everywhere they looked bought more fear into their bodies. Behind them, bombs exploded shooting a cloud of red, orange and black into the murky sky. Even though it was midday, it looked like nighttime. Bullets narrowly missed the three brothers. Then one big explosion erupted and all their thoughts stopped. The three graves hold the memories of three very courageous men.

Lest We Forget

E.V Year 6

As boys Franklin, Thomas and Gerald loved running around and playing tag with each other. As the years went by the boys separated from each other the war looming over their heads. Then all the boys signed up to fight for their country.

As they ran into battle, their guns loaded the three boys started firing at the enemy hoping they were hiding something, anything. Thomas the first of the brothers lost.

As their mother placed Franklin’s teddy bear on his grave she slowly started to cry.

S.R Year 5

At the dawn of the sun, they run.

When the sky is dyed blue they fight,

as the lids of the world drift closed they shall rest.

Don't fret about them for they are now strong.

They will never again be weakened for they are in the arms of the universe.

Safe from tanks and triggers.

Lest We Forget
