Library Corner

Best wishes to everyone for a relaxing summer break. Despite the challenges of 2020, the library has continued to thrive. Top loans in 2020 for print books include ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth, ‘Hunger’ by Michael Grant and ‘Harry Potter and the cursed child’ by Jack Thorne and JK Rowling. In our digital book collection ‘Wonder’ by RJ Palacio, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ by JK Rowling, ‘Everywhere you want to be’ by Christina June and ‘The Mark of Athena’ (Heroes of Olympus Book 3) by Rick Riordan were the top loaned items. Our digital book loans in 2020 were up over 1000% on the same period last year. It’s fantastic to see both our staff and students embracing digital borrowing which is available to access 24/7 all year round.

 

It was wonderful to welcome our Year 7 of 2021 to the school and the library. For those Year 7s our Library Catalogue is available to browse at home over the summer break. Login details will be available for our 2021 Year 7s at the beginning of Term 1.

 

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

Congratulations to Jamie, Tarini, Jaikiah (Year 7) Harshitha (Year 8) Rusha (Year 9) who successfully completed the Reading Challenge 2020.

 

Summer Reading and Activities

 Library books are able to be borrowed over the summer break if you are returning to GEC in 2021, so come to the library before the end of term to stock up for your summer reading. The holidays are looking like a great time to explore our online resources including:

Book Club

Our final Book Club for 2020 was held in the grounds of GEC. It’s great to share the love of books with each other and we are all looking forward to reading over the summer break. Our Book Club have chosen their favourite books of 2020. We’d love to see more members join Book Club in 2021, come to see us at the library if you’d like to join.
