Why not join the Association in 2021?

The Glen Eira College Parent’s Association (the Association or more commonly known as GECPA) is an informal and friendly group of parents and carers of students at Glen Eira College (GEC).  We support the school community. Why not join? Your level of involvement is up to you but your time and experience will be appreciated.

Did you know that researchers have found a link between parental involvement at the school and academic achievement?

That’s another great reason to get involved with GECPA.

  • We act as a link between our parent community and GEC.
  • We represent an organised, parent perspective.
  • We provide parents and carers of students at GEC with a voice.
  • We support the school community by hosting events and sharing information.
  • We are involved in fundraising for the school. (see comment)

Plus – joining GECPA is a great way to meeting other parents and carers at the school who share your enthusiasm. Also, it makes a huge difference when you share your opinion.

We plan to have our regular Tuesday evening parks walking group start up again when school starts in 2021 so let us know if you would lie to join us for one-hour stroll.

Local attractions

Whether you’re new to the area, or you’ve been here all your life, you can always look at our surrounds through new eyes.

When was the last time you had a picnic at Ripponlea Gardens?

There are some wonderful parks and garden in our community and you are more than likely to bump into other families from the school. Why not arrange a picnic after school and get to know other families your kids go to school with? It can be a relaxed and nice easy way to end your day.

And now that that the warmer weather is here, a swim at a pool and or the beach is on the cards again.

NOTE: Carnegie Swim Centre is closed and will not be reopening this summer.

Sky Castle Federation Square free night sound and light show

After every storm, there’s a rainbow. Sky Castle is a dreamy, interactive sound and light installation, featuring a cluster of inflatable arches that span in colourful symphony across Fed Square. As guests move through the arches, their movement powers and progresses the melodic xylophone soundscape and stimulates colour changes in each arch – evocative of the joy and hope that rainbows bring after every storm.

Open-air and free to attend and explore, no bookings are required. Please follow the directions to sign in for COVID-safe reasons upon entry to the square.

BRING ON THE BREAK!

It’s that time of the year….. to Rest, Relax and Recharge.

As we approach the end of the year, it's a good time to consider the ways in which we might reset, recharge, and prepare for the year that is to come.

Energy comes from many sources and can always be replenished – spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally. Consider each of the four sources of energy to look for diverse ways to recharge your batteries.

Here are some suggestions… I’m sure you can think of many more.

How to top up our energy?

Spiritual

  • Help someone else – anonymously.
  • Stop to smell the roses.
  • Connect your daily actions to a greater sense of purpose or meaning.

Physical

Mental

  • Learn something new.
  • Know your energy levels – and work to them.
  • Build a new routine/ritual.

Emotional

  • Build a positive portfolio (a collection of events/memories, etc that bring you joy).
  • Call a friend.
  • Take a break from people/things that bring you down.

ENJOY the break! Bring on 2021!
