Student Voice

VicSRC candidate

Hello! I’m Rhini and I’m a Year 10 student. I want to represent Victorian students by being a VicSRC representative because I’m responsible and manage my time well, and also am an active member of the school community, and as students, we should have an input in our education. I’m also part of our school's leadership team and the skills I’ve learned from the opportunity will help me gather ideas from students and teachers, into our education to make it more fun and safe for everyone.

The VicSRC is the Victorian Student Representative Council. They have an executive committee that has people from all over Victoria, representing students at the state level.

I would like to be elected so I can get student voices and ideas into our education to make it more interesting and inclusive. To become an Executive, I need your help. Vote for me!

The voting doesn’t actually begin until Monday 27 July and you will receive instructions for voting via email after you’ve signed up to VicSRC.

Thank you so much for your support.

Engagement day during Lockdown 2.0

Despite our year 7-10 students currently remote learning at home, we in leadership are still focused on keeping all students connected during this unprecedented time.

One way of doing this is through the upcoming engagement days which will continue over the duration of online learning. Different themes such as ‘Fun Sock Friday’ and ‘Pyjama Party,’ aim to bring a fun element to remote learning and keep students of all year levels engaged and in contact with each other.

A main priority of the leadership team this year has been developing a proposed new leadership structure for 2021 and the years beyond. We are currently in the process of receiving feedback from the student body as well as teachers to ensure that the views and values of MGSC are reflected in the new leadership plans. Although the current situation can make it difficult to collaborate with younger year levels on proposed changes to our school, we are committed as a group to staying united and working together to achieve our goals.

Personal Learning

This term in Personal Learning, student in Years 7-10 will work through a variety of topics including course selection, careers guidance, team building, development of interpersonal skills, study skills in addition to Wellbeing topics and the weekly G.E.M grid for personal writing.

We are pleased to be able to include a Wellbeing lesson focussing on the story of Sadako and the 1000 Cranes encouraging thoughtfulness, empathy and self-reflection. This lesson was created by Year 10 student, Chani Thompson. It is hoped that as a whole school, we can build a display where the 1000 cranes can be constructed into one creative installation bringing the whole school together later this term. All student are encouraged to contribute their ideas and areas of interest when we are planning the next terms topics for Personal Learning as the curriculum should include areas of importance to current students.

Year 9 and 10 students will be focussing early in the term on course selection processes while Year 7 students will be starting each session with Show ‘n’ Tell. The Year 7s will have time to prepare a short talk about something of interest to them, or something they have done, and share this with their classmates. Regularly speaking in front of peers in a supportive environment builds confidence and allows students in each class to get to know each other a little better especially in what has been quite a disconnected year so far.
