Tababata Festival

At the end of term 2 students learnt about the traditional Japanese Tanabata festival, also known as the Star Festival, which is held in Japan on July 7.

Students explored the Tanabata legend of the deities of Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are representative of the stars of Vega and Altair. In Japan, every year on July 7, people write wishes on strips of colourful paper called ‘tanzaku’ and hang them up on bamboo branches.

Students also enjoyed writing their own wishes in Japanese and hanging them on a tree in the school grounds.
