Leader of Pedagogy 

This week, some students will be receiving a bookmark to use when reading at home over the holiday break. These bookmarks have some great pointers for parents to use when reading with your children. We are teaching the students to become ‘balanced readers’. This means they are proficient in all areas of Decoding, Comprehension and Fluency & Phrasing when reading a wide range of texts and genres.

Decoding - being able to use their knowledge of letters and sounds, and letter patterns, to say and read words correctly.

Comprehension - being able to make meaning from a text

Fluency & Phrasing - being able to use punctuation to break text into meaningful segments and read with appropriate pace.
