Eastern Metropolitan Cross Country

What a day! On Tuesday June 14, 6 St Cecilia's students and family members ventured out Yarra Glen Racecourse for the Eastern Region Metropolitan Cross Country. It was very challenging conditions with muddy track and very cold and windy weather. Each and every one of the kids should be so proud of themselves. At this Regional level, St Ceclia's competes against much bigger schools from a huge area of Melbourne, including all the APS private schools.  The races had between 85-95 kids in them!

These 6 students had progressed through the House, Glen Iris District and Boroondara Divisional rounds of cross country, and to make it this far is a remarkable achievement!!

Millie, Hamish, Lucy, Ivy, Jake and Alice were AMAZING in the way they looked out for each other, celebrated with each other, cheered, stuck together, laughed, had fun and showed incredible sportsmanship.

It was so wonderful to be part of this special St Cecilia’s team and memories were made for a lifetime.

Alice ran in the last race of the day - and when she came through the gates at the end, the other 5 were all there to meet her and were so happy for her, it was just awesome!!

All families had stayed to watch her event, it was the best team spirit. Everyone also cheered Lucy’s medal ceremony which was so special for her too. For a small school we certainly had a great presence!!

Our boys netball team, who went through the season undefeated, will compete in the finals.

Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped out and came along to support the students.

We need to reserve a very, very special thank you to our amazing Mrs Galgani, who works tirelessly to make sure that the whole program goes ahead seamlessy.

Taekwondo

Recently, as a component of our PE program, our students were involved in a special incursion teaching them about Taekwondo.

Taekwondo develops force, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. It also involves mental focus.

Here is a short report from two of senior students, Sabrina and Issy.

Taekwondo has been a different experience for everyone and surely something that we      have all enjoyed. We learnt to punch, kick and to defend ourselves when needed. Taekwondo has taught us many ways of defence but with learning those skills comes a responsibility that we can only use when we are feeling threatened or feel the need to use them . We are certainly not allowed to use them on one another. We feel very lucky to have this opportunity to learn defensive skills to use to protect ourselves. We hope that taekwondo becomes a regular subject for our school as it is of great importance.
