Staff Spirituality Day

In the beautiful setting of Fort Beach, South Arm, the staff at John Paul II began the day with a group prayer, giving thanks for our beautiful island state. This set the tone for a day that held in focus the message and challenge of Laudato Si, a letter from Pope Francis about the Care for Our Common Home.

After a presentation of an overview of the Laudato Si document, staff engaged in group

discussion of the content of each chapter.

Reflective activity time offered the opportunity to listen to each other and the whispers of the Spirit. In turn, groups walked the Potters’ Hill labyrinth, engaged with prayer spaces and explored stewardship through planting seedlings in origami-made newspaper plant boxes.

After lunch some individual members of staff shared examples of aspects of their daily life practices that express their commitment to the care of our common home. We then had time to think about some ways that we could do something similar in our own lives and then turned our focus towards our school community.

It was an enriching day with times of peaceful reflection, as well as a time to share, laugh and take action in order to be better stewards of our beautiful world.

JPII ADHD Awareness Day

On Tuesday, 25 October we held an ADHD awareness day at school and we invited students to wear something orange which symbolises this day.

In art club students made fidget makers, and in class there were other activities centred around this topic. Students enjoyed openly chatting about ADHD and discovering what it was. Many students had often heard of ADHD before, or a friend had been diagnosed, or took medication but they didn't really know what it was about.

Thank you to staff members Alison Wightman and Claire Cook for organising.
