Congratulations to the students from the Track Club who ran their first ever 'Gift' what a terrific effort by the young men and women from Years 7 to Year 11. This of course is all thanks to the students and their passion - and to Stoofa for his constant drive to give our students opportunity. The video is 0.2 of a second for each photo and the photos below are step by step of the race
There has been no shortage of exciting activities this term, with every event on our calendar giving us reasons to smile. All campuses had the opportunity to get moving through our campus Athletic Sports days and Cross Country events. The level of effort, positivity and encouragement across all of these events highlighted the importance of sports in schools. Congratulations to everyone who took part and we wish those who are progressing to the next level of competition the best of luck.
On the subject of sport, the Year 6 students across all primary campuses have been participating in the Seedlings Program in preparation for our Winter Lightning Premiership Sports Competition which took place in term 2. Coming together as a college, children were asked to nominate a sport then work with our wonderful coaches to hone their skills and unite as a team. The Seedlings Program continued to meet and train weekly in the lead-up to competition day.
What an opportunity for our 7-8 SEED ASCEND students to experience in semester one.. Our students learnt first hand how elite sporting clubs operate through tours of Melbourne's sporting precinct. The knowledge & wisdom they gained from the visit to AFL club Collingwood & Rugby League club Melbourne Storm, and through talking with their staff members and athletes was phenomenal.
We'd like to thank both clubs for providing our students this wonderful opportunity.
Recently the SEED Development Squad went to the MCG and met the Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy who spoke to us about being healthy as well as choosing what to do in life. We have also been doing lots of fitness activities including the dreaded BEEP test - it was really hard. We then go to the pool as part of our recovery.
On Fridays all 7/8 students have been participating in athletic rotations at Goldsworthy in preparation for the 7-12 athletics day. They were really good and we were able to have a go at all of the activities and have specialist coaching. All 7/8 students went to the Hovell Park Track and completed our cross country. It was great to see everyone having a go and enjoying the morning. Thanks to Stoofa, Jessie and all the PE teachers for making these events happen.
Ryan and Alana .
What a year SEED has had. Not only have we had multiple flag wins, but the participation in sports such as Football, Basketball, Soccer, Badminton and Volleyball in SEED have led to the student's participating in these sports of a Recess and Lunchtime on a daily basis. This has really created the energy in Northern Bay College. It was great to see the students and staff members talking about their major topics/interests while utilising our SEED Podcast equipment. Mr Lowery and I would like to thank you for displaying respect towards peers, teachers and coaches during all SEED sessions.
We had two teams win the Geelong Competition, both the Year 7/8 boys Volleyball team and the Year 7 girls Volleyball teams will compete in Western Metro Competitions next Term. Well done and congratulations to the two teams.
At the start of August, the College was so fortunate to welcome Australian Cricket Coach - Andrew McDonald. The visit, which was made possible through the Lords Taverners - a charitable organisation who have taken our school under their wing through the past 4 years, was such a special opportunity for our students to interact with such a high profile and inspiring leader. Andrew really was just so generous with his time and with the investment and interest he genuinely showed in our students and the programs he viewed. He then sat down for a Podcast with hosts Falk Davis, Stoofa and Riley Ward. Hear his and their great work here LINK.
The SEED ASCEND Squad were privileged to visit the MCG for a tour which included the Museum, the MCG member's long room and access to the ground and the famous oval. The students were shown the change rooms, the recovery rooms, pools, spas and coaching facilities. In addition they were able to walk through the commentary boxes and media rooms.
One of the highlights of Spring Term for our Year 6 students is always the Lightning Premiership. Our campuses trained hard for some weeks before the event and it paid off with some terrific performances - and whole heap of fun.
The Sports that the children selected from were Badminton, Cricket, Touch Rugby, Rounders and Hot Shots Tennis.
Northern Bay students were terrific sports and had a great attitude. A special congratulations to the Badminton team who took out the championship and progressed to Regional and did a great job.
Since we began our relationship with the Lords Taverners we have had a great focus on cricket. They provided funds for our professional quality crIcket nets at Goldsworthy and also some cricket tops with the Taverners Logo. Their generosity is terrific.
One of the rotations in the Year 7 / 8 SEED program is cricket and the photos below show both the enthusiastic SEED students and the proud Cricket stars in their new tops.
Seedlings are the Year 6 students who we hope will rise to excellence in Years 7 and 8 in their chosen sport / sports.
The Year 6 cohort at the local lightning premiership were terrific - especially badminton and two rising stars excelled and will continue onto higher levels of competition.
One of the most exciting initiatives on campus is the Student Led SEED Track Club which happens weekly at the Goldsworthy Reserve . A great partnership with Corio Little Aths and CoGG allows us to use the track on Friday mornings. Coaches Graham Watkins and Mark McDowell work brilliantly with our enthusiastic young people.
Special Athletic Tops have been printed for the students who have already progressed in outcomes and it has only been a few weeks. The session was open to all secondary students from our 5 campuses. They just had to get to Goldsworthy and be back at their own campus by start of school day with parental consent.
In June the College launched an excellent video to showcase one of our Pillars of Excellence. SEED. Please take the time to look at the outstanding opportunities open to our students.
We are proud to launch our latest video showcasing our college programs. This video captures our SEED program and its students. We think it came up really well. This will be loaded to our college website https://www.nbc.vic.edu.au/
