2022 in HARMONY

Our vibrant multicultural community

The demographic profile of Northern Bay can easily be see at any campus with our students coming from  wonderful mix of national backgrounds .

The college always celebrates Harmony Day in March and many of the special events in our First Nations Calendar such as Naidoc Week and Reconciliation Day.

This year we also started what we hope will be a regular event during Refugee Week. In 2014 a special first group of Afghan students wrote their stories and aspirations and this year we invited all students to write and do visuals of their stories or their hopes for the future.  The end result was captured in a gallery and the majority of entries then formed the pages of a book which will begin our collection at Northern Bay. The Karen and Karenni community have been with us for many years and continue to come and share the opportunities

But first the wonder and colour of the whole college Harmony Day Event.

Refugee Week Art and Writing Competition

In June our EAL Team launched the Refugee Week initiative and the entries were displayed at a special event at Goldsworthy Library

SATURDAY HOMEWORK CLUB

COLLABORATION – Saturday Homework Club

Berlthrand – our African Community Liaison Officer – hosted the final Saturday Homework Club of the year. Inclusive of many students from all Campuses and year levels the program has been a huge success in its first year supporting our students in all aspects of their learning. This was a wonderful celebration complete with an African Drummers presentation, a performance by a group of African Dancers, student speeches and the announcing of an ongoing partnership with the Burundian Community of Victoria for this program to continue through 2023.

NBC staff involved in this program –  Belthrand, Pel and Irene along with the student leaders involved in this program are to be commended on what has been a hugely successful initiative. We look forward to seeing this program grow from strength to strength next year.
