The return to CAMPING
Across year levels students loved their camp experiences
During the June / July holidays members of our college wide Student Wellbeing team hosted a camp for a group of our students at our Staughton Vale school camp site. This is a wonderful initiative which will be used to develop relationships with students across our college, further develop bonds across our campuses and support our students to focus on themselves and the further realisation of their own personal development goals.
The team has a really exciting program planned and we are so confident that this experience will add so nicely to what is already a comprehensive set of learning opportunities for our students.
The best part of camp was just interacting with teachers and other students that we don't usually talk to and learning more about them. As we are in year 12 we only interact with a certain amount of teachers but camp gave us the opportunity to interact and learn more about teachers that teach the Vcal system or classes we do not attend. Laughs were shared and positive vibes were spread which made camp very enjoyable. - DJ
Engaging in group activities and competing with our peers was the best part of year 12 camp for me. Year 12 Camp brought everyone's competitive side out and made it way more enjoyable as everyone was participating in small groups to get first place. It kept everyone active and engaged and was a positive vibe throughout the whole camp. Everyone got along and shared conversations. - Dish
The best thing that happened to me during the camp is not the activities. They're fun and I learnt a lot of new exciting things, especially during the Deakin tour. But that's not what makes the camp memorable. For me, it's the memories that I made with my friends and the new friends that I made during the camp. - Zainab
I had fun at our year 12 camp. On the first day, I boarded the train to the southern cross station and then walked a long way to our hotel to put our luggage there. My roommates were Zainab, Isha, Emmy and Alexis. We then went to a science g and then after that, we did a scavenger hunt. I also visited the night market at the Victorian market. It was very crowded but the food was worth the wait! Then it was bedtime. Before we fell asleep we watched a scary movie on Netflix. - Tabasom
It was so wonderful to see over 100 of our Year five students from all four P-8 Campuses head off on their 3 day Camp to Anglesea earlier this term. In what were cold but sunny conditions the students and staff were treated to a veritable cavalcade of fun and exciting camp activities. One of the real features of this camp is the opportunity students have to mix and create friendships with students across the college - an opportunity the students really lent into over the camp. Students have learnt how to work together, problem solve and take safe risks through the many exciting activities over the 3 day camp. The year 5 students had an absolute blast! Thank you so much to all the staff who volunteered to supervise our students throughout this time - - the students, families and indeed your colleagues are extremely grateful.
Of note too - the college camps and excursion team have done a wonderful job in securing a number of cost-free camps for students as part of the DET - Positive Start initiative. A great way to get our kids out and about!!
Year 4 headed off to Staughton Vale Camp for a night in August. They explored nature and for a lot of students this was their first camp and time away from home.
The SNOW Camp was excellent in all aspects - except weather - the sun did shine but not often. However it did not dampen the spirits of the Boarders and Skiers.

Year 4 arrived at the Staughton Vale Outdoor Education Centre which is the college run campsite near Anakie Gorge, excited and nervous about what lay ahead. Our students had the time of their lives participating in activities such as hut building, making damper, roasting marshmallows, playing mini golf and frisbee golf. We all enjoyed dining together eating lasagna, pizza and chicken burgers and talked about the day that was and the day to come. At the end of the camp we had some very weary campers, who had had the best time ever!
This was the culmination of 2 years of gaining understanding about multiple aspects of the Arts and the various pathways taken by people in the Arts Industry.
Particular thanks to Mr Diamond who drove the school bus to the city and stayed with us till after we had been to be audience members at the project on Channel 10 with a live screening. Mr Sapwell was terrific coming to get us and drive us back.
While we were in the city it was not the best of Spring weather - but wet and windy we still had a great time. The activities included a class at RMIT, attending Come From Away - a terrific live theatre show. We went to Acme and to the National Gallery and caught fresh air on Southbank. We had a sensational experience at Artvo and a bit of relaxed enjoyment at the Cats Cafe (yes it is overrun with cats)
Mr Marco Polo (or should I say Mr Diamond) also led us on a Scavenger hunt in the city art areas and a relaxing mountain HIKE!!! through the beautiful Botanic Gardens.
One of the highlights was of course Artvo with the amazing optical illusions
