From the Wellbeing Team

Some support contacts

With Christmas just around the corner, the NBC Wellbeing Team wanted to take a moment to remind you of the supports available to students and families over the holiday period.  Summer is usually a wonderful time of year, but we know this can be a challenging time for many people, here is a list of places for different supports available during Summer:

  • Safe Steps (1800 015 188) – provides 24-hour state-wide family violence support
  • 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) – provides 24-hour sexual assault and family violence information, counselling, and support
  • The Orange Door – supports families experiencing family violence and families who need extra support with the care of children
  • Kids Helpline (1800 551 800) – provides 24-hour counselling for young people aged 5 to 25
  • What’s OK At Home? – a website for children and young people aged 10 to 17
  • headspace – provides access to counselling services for Victorian government secondary school students.

This year, the Australian Federal Police are seeing a concerning global trend of teenagers (predominantly male) being targeted online to send explicit images of themselves and then blackmailed.  As a school community, we want to share this message to remind families and young people to be aware of online interactions – and to never share intimate photos online.  If you are concerned that you or someone you know has been involved in this behaviour, or you want to find out more information, search the AFP have provided information at accce.gov.au Most importantly, the Northern Bay College Wellbeing Team want to acknowledge the incredible personal growth in students this year, and we are excited to see you all in the new year.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and on edge, or if you’re spending Christmas away from home, there are things you can do to make dealing with the holiday season easier.
