Live Love Learn

Dear Families,

Yesterday I had the pleasure of watching the Year 5 Leadership speeches for 2022. All of the students showed wonderful courage talking in front of peers and other staff. I'm excited to see who our Year 6 leaders are for next year and the role they will all play in our school.

Today we had out first transition session for students in Year 1-6. Students had the opportunity to work with their 2022 teachers and their 2022 classmates for two hours. As I walked around the school it was wonderful to hear the buzz of excitement that existed within each classroom. Students will have an opportunity to work with their 2022 teacher and classmates again next Friday.

As you would be aware, teachers have been busy assessing students and writing student reports ready to be posted to families on Monday 13th December. More information regarding the student reports this semester will be emailed to families next week.

We are excited to announce that we have three new staff members joining us next year. Ms. Mikaila Greenan who will be teaching Year 4 next year, Mr. Daniel Booth who will be teaching Year 3 next year (Daniel Booth is currently teaching Performing Arts) and Ms. Sarah Terrill who will be teaching Year 1 next year. We also have two staff members returning from leave next year; Bianca Latto and Brighid Fahy. We wish Charlotte Biggs, Dorothy Hall and Sarah Jones all the best as they take up opportunities at different schools in 2022. We would also like to wish Annabel Coome all the best for 2022 as she takes 12 months leave. We look forward to Annabel returning to Galilee in 2023.

Wellbeing

Body Language

By understanding that everyone has mirror neurons, which copy the gestures, expressions and moods of those around them, you will be able to spread your happy and positive messages to more people.

Most of what you communicate to others is not from what you say, but rather, how you use your body language. When meeting people, practise using welcoming and friendly body language in front of a mirror, or have fun doing this with friends and family.

Swimming Carnival Report

On Thursday the 18th of November, Galilee held our annual swimming carnival. It was hosted at MSAC. Year 4-6 students arrived earlier than all the other students, at around 9:30am to 11:15. The races started at 10:00am, the 12-13 girls freestyle competing first. The rest of the students then competed. Breaststroke was next. Then came Backstroke and then Butterfly. Some of the younger classes competed in some noodle races and other fun games in the shallow pools. Overall, everyone did their best at the swimming carnival and Saints won. A huge thank you to all the parent helpers and the teachers that helped out.

Scripture of the Week

Year 4 Eucharist

Last weekend the Yr 4 students and some Yr 5 students at Galilee received the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.

These were lovely ceremonies celebrated by Fr. Gary Devere at St. Peter and Paul’s church in South Melbourne.

Many thanks to those involved in their preparation as well as to the parents and families.

Sacrament of Confirmation

On Thursday evening the children from Galilee as well as some children who don’t attend Galilee, received the sacrament of Confirmation. It was a wonderful celebration.

The parents/friends and their families were very proud of the students as were their teachers. The children responded so well and sang so beautifully. We continue to pray for them on their faith journeys.

We are very fortunate that the celebration of all the sacraments will be able to take place this term.

Father Hugh has asked Fr. Gary to accommodate the OLMC students and their families. Fr. Gary has kindly agreed to his request. All sacraments will be celebrated at StsPP as follows:

Reconciliation: December 9 at 10am with Fr. Gary

Confirmation: Thursday December 2nd at 7:00pm.

Many thanks in advance for your support and understanding as we navigate this.

Best wishes,

Simon Millar (Principal)
