Attendance News
Welcome back to On-Site Learning for all our students and families. We commend all students and families for doing their best during the Remote Learning Program.
Absence communication changed during the Remote Learning Program. From Term 3 this is how the College will be communicating absences to best support students and families during still these difficult and challenging times.
At 10am the Absent TEXT Message is sent to parents/guardians for students marked ABSENT from FORM ASSEMBLY or PERIOD 1 or absent from both Form Assembly & Period 1.
At 3pm the Absent TEXT Message is sent to parents/guardians for students marked ABSENT ALL DAY.
EVERY Fridayat approx. 3.30pm 'PINK SLIP' Unexplained Absence emails are automatically generated from Compass to parents/guardians based on teacher roll marking. 'Pink Slip' Unexplained Absences include whole day absent dates and single class absences from Term 1, 2 and 3 - please check carefully the dates and classes.
At Craigieburn Secondary College attendance and engagement takes high priority and is highly supported by Education Support, Sub-school staff, Teachers and by our Allied Health team. We encourage all families to contact the College to promptly explain these absences so as the College can best support your family and your child/ren during these challenging times or you may not be meeting your requirements under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.
The Victorian Government stated from Tuesday the 9th of June all students from all years levels are to return to on-site learning. Students learning from home due to exceptional circumstances and have Principal Approval will be coded as ‘Remote Learning (exceptional)’. This should be where:
- a student is learning from home due to medical advice (medical certificates preferred)
- a school has closed due to medical advice for face to face learning but is delivering remote learning.
Follow one of the options to explain absences or lateness to school and/or request attendance & engagement support.
- Login to the Compass APP or parent portal at https://craigieburnsc-vic.compass.education/ (enter reason, time-frame/comment reason for the absence)
- Email: attendance@craigieburnsc.vic.edu.au (subject line: Student Name / Year Level)
- Phone: Absence Line on 8339 4224 and follow the prompts
- Phone: 9308 1144 and follow the prompts
- Email attendance@craigieburnsc.vic.edu.au for Attendance Participation or Engagement Support
- Email or provide Medical/Dental/Specialist Certificates on return to school
The College does its best to keep attendance records as accurate and as up-to-date as possible. Attendance records are uploaded daily to the Department of Education and Training.
Students attendance is monitored daily. When students overall school attendance rate is below 90%, then families may be contacted by a member of the sub-school to offer and provide any necessary supports. Students experiencing difficulties returning to school or engaging in the on-site learning will not be penalised on parent/guardian contact and immediate supports will be provided.
Explained absences will be acknowledged by email as approved, unapproved or amended based on the type of absence, your child/ren’s attendance rate and known circumstances, for example;
- Explained Approved Absences - where the College has determined the explanation is reasonable
- Explained Unapproved Absences - where the College has determined the explanation is not reasonable
- Explained Amended Absences – where the College has received medical certificates/specialist certification or Principal Approval
NB: Unexplained Absences - where no reasons are given – still requiring explanation
Families are encouraged contact the College to discuss any issues or concerns. We welcome your feedback as we transition back to on-site learning and term 3.
