50 free native trees from City West Water

Last week, Katherine (teacher) informed the Environment and Sustainability Sub-committee that we received 50 free native trees from City West Water.  City West Water provided bamboo and cardboard guards for the trees and the trees were in tiny tubes. We were even given native grass!

As part of their Inquiry unit on Materials and Design – a group of 1/2 students with Alyena (teacher), Nicole (parent) and Marie (parent), spent Thursday morning planting the trees. Brian helped us as well in many ways, especially with his mallet and making sure the bamboo was secure and then he fenced off the area with black and yellow tape.

At the end of the school day, all students are welcome to tip out any water left in their bottles on to the trees, just please be careful when you do this as the trees are very, very small and young.

Did You Know?

Did you know you can reduce your landfill waste and REDcycle your soft plastics?  Simply collect your bread bags, pasta bags, frozen vegetable packets, cereal box liners, even your old green shopping bags and pop them in to your nearest REDcycle collection bin.  The collection bins are easily found at your local Coles and Woolworths (Moonee Ponds / Showgrounds etc), at the front of the store.  See the REDcycle link for further info.
