Book Week Celebrations

17th – 23rd August 2019

Book Week is always an exciting event on the MPW calendar. It is a special celebration of everything books!

This year Book Week will be celebrated from

17th - 23rd August. It is a special spotlight on reading, experiencing new texts by Australian authors and illustrators, sharing favourite books, and personal connections to, and understandings of character and events.

At MPW, our library will come alive with exciting displays based on this year's theme ‘READING IS MY SUPER POWER.’

The Shortlisted books will also be on display, and many will be read, shared, and discussed during library sessions.

During Book Week students will also take part in a Multi-age Book Week Workshop (day to be confirmed this week) – a special whole schoolbook experience: Students are also encouraged to dress up as a book character on this day.

Please feel free to visit our library during this special week, and hopefully, together, we can “open” your child's secret reading powers!

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge 2019

This year the school has not be registered for the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. However don’t despair! We have included a link to the booklists for you and there is a display in the school library with a selection of books.

These can be borrowed during the classroom library sessions or from 8.45 – 9.00am when the library is open.

Browse the list and find the books that are right for your child. Record reading on their regular classroom reading log.

Include the title of the book and ‘PRC’ to indicate it’s a book from the Premiers’ Reading Challenge.

The Challenge aims to inspire children and young people to read more books.

It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student to read.

1/2's Inquiry Unit - Materials and Design

On Thursday and Friday of last week the 1/2s were able to see how the Inquiry unit they investigated (Materials and Design – choices and the impact we make) can bring about a result in so many different areas.

  • The garden and landscape group planted native trees one day and mulched the next.
  • The basket and weaving group made looms and weaved and created interesting designs and patterns.
  • The mud kitchen group had a go at using gaffer tape, cable ties and twine to put pallets and card together to make the kitchen.
  • The cubby house group investigated using straw and mud, making a clay pop up installation base and they also got very muddy and had a lot of fun.

It was great for the kids to see that their investigating, planning, designing and ultimately building/creating to complete the unit can take place.  The students got to choose which group to go into and that allowed for students from different classes to work together collaboratively.

Special thanks to our parent helpers and donations of items that went into the four projects.
