Digital Technology News

It is always a busy time at the start of the year setting up new routines and becoming oriented to new situations. This is especially true in the digital technology sphere, with lots of time setting up new account, programs and platforms and becoming familiar with new online spaces and resources for both teachers and students.

This year will see some exciting developments in this area, both in with the addtion of new resources and in further strengthening our digital technology curriculum throughout the school.

Some of the new additions to the Digitial Technology program in our school include the following:

We are reintroducing Hapara which is a program that augments our teachers ability to direct and monitor our students online learning. Some features include the ability for teachers to remotely view their classes online activity in real time, the ability to set and share online tasks with the class and the option to access and safeguard students' school google accounts.

Class Dojo is a program that allows our teachers, students and parents to connect and share the learning that takes place in the classroom. More detailed information about this program will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Our Year 3 students have had an exciting time getting to know their new Chromebook devices. Just a reminder that families from year 4-6 who might be interested in getting a device for their child which they can use both at school and at home, can get in contact with me about out BYOD program and purchasing portal which is managed by LWT.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST CLASSES

This year am very excited to be able to work with students across the school in regular Digitial Technology sessions. Each class will have a session once a fortnight.

We are also continuing our relationship with Inform and Empower who have been a fantastic resource for teachers, parents and students in the area of online safety and student wellbeing.

As part of setting up the year in our Digitial Technology classes, we have been engaging in the Inform and Empower online webinars. These sessions have focused on the program's keystone concepts for online safety, being:

Kind, Brave, Aware & Clever
